Winsley Hector examines the language and policies regarding race in the Seventh Day Adventist Church in the 20th and 21st centuries.

  • The issue of race relations within the Seventh-day Adventist Church needs to come out of the closet. While not formerly addressed, the issue of race remains the subtext in out organization when well-qualified visible minorities are bypassed for desired positions, or when separate white and black churches continue to co-exist in the same town, or when particularly the older members of our church opposed interracial marriages. Hector is to be applauded for bringing this issue out in the open and setting out a path for discussion and reconciliation…It may be difficult for some not to be angered by the contents in Hector’s bold and revealing work, but the focus ought not to be about the sins of the past, but about the hope for the future. This is a must read book!
